can i safely engage 4h on the fly and not mess my t-case?

edit, whooops this should be in the 2nd gen 12 valve section, sorry.

its not a problem IF you are gentile
Do not engage/disingage if you are on the throttle
Are you running an auto or a 5spd
auto: in gear while coasting
Manual: I shift in and out between shifts with the trans in gear and the clutch pushed in

this only works for 2H/4H

4L is a whole other story

I always try to keep it at low speeds when possible. There's a synchronizer assembly that has to make that front driveshaft go from a dead stop to whatever speed you are driving, in the split second it takes you to pull back on the lever. Obviously the higher the speed you are travelling, the harder it is on the synchronizer.
