47re PCM flash for better shifting

I've had this RAM for 6 years and it always behave this way. When I get some good speed going and pay attention to how my RAM shifts it goes through fourth gear, and then the torque converter lock. I should feel all gears and then the TC lock. I just don't get any range in the fourth gear. Do any of you know if there's a flash to the PCM available that you make shifting better?

Nope, 4th is OD LU, and it is a simple grounding function. ( PCM drags OD solenoid to ground )

Pat,
I am not arguing, just asking. I always thought the shift events were 1 - 2 - 3 - 3tcl - 4 - 4tcl

Did I get that wrong?

Mine was 1-2-3-TCLU-4 ( OD ) That was 100 percent stock.

The TCLU was a much bigger drop in RPMs than OD by several hundred RPMs, but I had stock converter.

TCLU is also a simple PCM bringing it to ground function, so other than MPH changes, nothing else a flash would change.

67, just so it is clear, the only thing I think you are off is that the TC doesn't unlock for 4th, just remains engaged.......

Pat,
Your response makes sense for what I have been wondering about all summer. I have not been able to feel a shift event after I leave 3tcl.

So what you are saying I am feeling is 1 - 2 - 3 - 3tcl - 4tcl.

I thought I was missing a shift event of some sort and ending up with 1 - 2 - 3 - 3tcl - 4

I was wondering why I was never getting tcl in 4th/OD.

Over lunch I was reading the tranny manual I have for 42rh / 46rh / 47rh and it sounds like there could be some conditions where you could be in 4th/OD without the torque converter locked up. Am I reading that wrong in the manual?

Wow - did I ever hijack this poor guys thread

As for 4th without TCLU, I suppose it is possible, but I admit, I got rid of my Auto truck before I got completely familiar with its operation.

And yea, you are feeling after 3rd, the TC lock, which IIRC was about 5-600 RPM drop on Brownie, then later, 4TH/OD which was more along the lines of 2-300 RPM, and easy to miss.

Thanks guys. I was hoping I could get what seems to be a 4th gear. It does feel like I have a gear missing before it goes in OD. Thanks again.
