47RE Dipstick

I noticed since buying my truck several months ago, the transmission dipstick will not stay all the way in the tube. You can push it down, but it pops back out about a quarter inch, which leaves the tube partially open.

Well, I serviced the tranny today, and found that the dipstick hits the pan.

Is this a common problem, or do I possibly have the wrong dipstick? If the dipstick is the right one, I think I'm going to cut 1/4 inch off of the bottom.

The thought had crossed my mind! But, after spending over $60 on 2 gallons of ATF+4, I think I might have to wait till I need to change the fluid again.

Or the supplier that provides the dipstick tubes figured he could save money by making the tube 1/2" SHORTER.....

OK, I did it. I cut 1/4" off the end of the dipstick and ground the cut end smooth. It worked great! The dipstick stays put now.
