47RE Auto, Govenor Sensor Issue

Hello,

I have an 01 Ram, with 69K miles that I have a bad valve body in. I have heard that there is a class action suit brewing against Dodge over this issue. I know it is a very big problem with the tranny, and mine is now in the shop, and the dealership has informed me that there is a nationwide back order for the valve body. They will not admit that this is an ongoing problem, but what else does a "nationwide backorder" mean? Where are all the spares units? Being used? This doesn't raise a flag that there is an issue with the valve body on these trannys? Anyway.. I would like to know if any of you out there is familier with the problem, and know anything about the class action suit to get Dodge to reconise it, and make it right with us Dodge owners that it has effected?

Interesting first post....run into a room and yell fire.

First of all....national back order. Can mean a couple things. One, the weekly usage is through the roof and there are lots being replaced. Two, not many are used and the stock wasn't filled. Being the 47 has been dead for four model years now who knows. What I do know is that in the nine years I've been in my present shop I bet we've replaced less than 10 complete valve body assemblies.

The "common" prob that is related to the valve body is the failure of the gov psi transducer and solenoid. Easy, and in today's scope, a relatively cheap repair.

...and the final issue. The competence of your dealer tech transmission guy. I've worked with some great ones, and some that were.......well you get the point......and NO, I'm not the trans guy in our shop, but have built a few on the side over the years including mine.

Well, havent really had any issues untill now is the reason for the first post fire, lol.. You know the joke of the kid that his parents were worried about because he couldn't speak. One day he was at the dinner table when he was 7 years old, took a bite of his dinner and said, "Who burnt dinner?". His parents were estatic because he finally spoke. When asked why he has never spoke until then, he simply said "Well, everything was fine up until now!!"..

Kinda the same senrio.

Anyway... From what I have been researching, this is a common problem with these trannys... I am in talks with Dodge about it. I know they can not take an "official" stance on it, until they are obligated to, but, we know it is a weak link with these trannys, and my truck doesnt have high mileage before the problem showed up.

I'm a little confused here... A bad govenor pressure sensor doesn't mean a bad valve body. Did I miss something here?

The errors were pointing to the governor sensor, and those have been diagnosed bad. I have it at the dealership at the moment, and they also said that the valve body has some seals in it that are leaking. I have also read that, that also is a fairly common thing. The dealership I use is known to be a pretty good service dept, and I have used them in the past with good results, and I do feel that they are pretty trustworthy, and do good work. So, I have no reason to not trust them. But, yes, the governor sensor and solenoid is bad, but they also say the valve body itself needs to be replaced.

Sounds like they are to lazy to just fix it. Forget the dealer and ake it to a tranny shop.

If the governor sensor is bad, What does it cause the transmission to do?

Not shift. It also puts the tranny in "limp" mode which makes it start out in 2nd gear. But in a nutshell just makes it not shift properly.
