So bottom line, is it better (easier on engine, prolongs engine life, etc.) on your engine if you have this feature enabled?

Thanks.

IMHO, better for your engine to plug your truck in, when it's below 40* and never have to use this high idle feature.

If you can't plug in, getting the high idle from a Smarty would be a good second choice.
As for paying a dealer for it.... A stick between the seat and the throttle, and a winter front (blocking some air flow) will do the job!
These things won't give you the 3 cylinder high idle ..... but after hearing it, you may feel like me, and not really want it

I love the description (..... the motor sound will change slightly...) haha You can hear the motor 1/2 a block away upwind in a 40 mph gale.

Cummins should seriously think about a 3 cyl 2 liter (5.9 minus 3 cyl). Put it in a half ton dually and I'd have to consider trading the big truck just for the cool sound. .

Surprising the exhaust note is a bit quieter both high idle and 3 cyl. It does have a bit stronger smell however...not that that's bad.

Thanks for the info. I talked to the local dealer today I told him the tsb # he said he had never heard of it and he would have to look into it to see if it would work on my truck. So I can tell him it will. thanks

I agree that plugging in is best but when you can't, I think the idle up and 3 cyl is good. It sure doesn't take long for the motor to warm up. I let it 3 cyl for about 2-3 minutes then kick the pedal and take off. Within about 10 minutes I'm up to operating temp. It can take 1/2 hour otherwise. Especially around town.

My neighbors don't like my generator running in the morning so I'm stuck I guess.

I have a banks powerpack installed on my 2000. Is it necessary to disable it prior to having the ECM updated with this feature??

I'm not sure on that. I guess it would be best to contact Bob Wagner at MAD.

I live down in Castle Rock and would be willing to set you up with a smarty load/unload. PM me and we can surely work out a time to get together. Should only take a few minutes.

It wouldn't hurt to disable it. Is it easy to do?

I've started unpluging if I know its going to between 32º and 0º. Even with my my temp switch controlled Pac Brake for warm up, it take longer if its plugged in than not. I agree that the 3cyl idle is a bit disturbing, but it works and have only had it kick in twice.

Does any of you guys use an exaust brake for quicker warm-up? Works Awsome! With high idle and the ext. brake on @20º, I'm at 160º in a little over 5mins with a stone cold engine. Takes a least 10min plugged in to reach 160º even with the ext brake on and engine start temp around 75º.

This combo works great and now all I need is remote start, and I've got it made. All automatic. When the brake kicks off its time to head out, all warmed up. If intrested, I can do a diagram of the temp control for warm up with an ext. brake. Let me know, its simple.
