2002 Cummins Diesel Warrenty
Also in my book on page 12, 2.6 it say Cummins Diesel Engine Warranty not DaimlerChrysler Warranty. This warrant by Cummins is in conjunction with DaimlerChrysler and therefore warranted by such, being it is DaimlerChrysler's Stated Warranty.
Cummins Engine Company, Inc. has absolutely nothing to do with the warranty. Once DC takes posession of the engine, Cummins is totally out of the picture.
If your booklet says something different, or if you somehow interpret the plain English text above differently, please share it with the rest of us.
Just do what 'Thomas' did: after you pay for service that should be covered, bring your warranty booklet, service records, and a copy of 16 CFR 701 to your dealer. If he, because of an inability to comprehend English, thinks the Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty period started at delivery, send him a "demand letter". Send a copy to your attorney. If you get no satisfaction from the dealer, sue him and DC in small claims court.
The Warranty Information booklet that came with my 2001 Ram clearly tells me the "Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty begins at the end of the 3/36 Basic Limited Warranty period".

What this means is this. You have a 3/36 basic and the cummins 5/100 engine warranty. The 3/36 is complete coverage the 5/100 takes over as the cummins engine warranty. They are basicly telling you your chrysler basic warranty is up and you now only have the cummins engine warranty. They bothe start at 0 or signing with one ending at 36,000 miles or 3 years and the other starting at 0 miles and signing and ending at 100.000 miles.

I'll interpret it according to basic rules of English. Had DC meant for the 5/100 Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty to begin at the same time the 3/36 Basic Limited Warranty did, surely they would've said so. They did, in fact, say exactly that for at least 4 other warranties. However, they said something completely different for the "begins at" event for the Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty.

It sure sounds like DC knows what their warranty booklet says, knows the applicable law, and realizes that they are obligated to pay for such repairs. They try to deny coverage via their "computers" (i.e. when a dealer tries to authorize warranty repair, or when you call DC directly). If you press them, though, they seem to eventually live up to their obligations. If a consumer "gives up", merely taking a dealer's or DC's word that the warranty "has expired", that's the consumer's failing. It seems that it's up to the consumer to make DC honor the terms of the warranty. And it seems that it works, if the consumer is willing to spend a little time to recoup a $3000 repair cost.
DaimlerChrysler initially denied coverage for Thomas' VP44 replacement. When faced with the facts (warranty booklet language and Federal law), they then tried to wiggle out of it by demanding service records. Once they had those records, they sent Thomas a check.
