2002 2500-Turbo Whistle?
2002 2500-Turbo Whistle?
I drove a 2002 2500 with 60k miles on it today and noticed a whistle sound, is that the turbo and if so is it normal? I never really noticed it on any of the other trucks I have driven. The truck has a 1693 code which I understand is a companion code, could it be related? The truck has the new style LP and IP pumps installed, holds about 6 psi until WOT then drops to around 1 or less. The turbo gauge seem to stay around 1 until I punched it then jumped to around 10. Anything here to be alarmed about? The truck was solid with no rust in the doors, 5 speed, nice interior etc. but I dont want to deal with alot of headaches either.
Thanks,
Shannon

Pressure he is seeing is perfectly normal for the in tank pump.
Look at the air filter as the source for the whistle, the silencer ring is probably MIA, as it is usually the first modification, followed by guages.

If 1psi fp is normal at wot then I would pull that pump out of the tank run it over and take it back to the dealer and put it some place the sun don't get to. Not that I would ever own a VP again but I did min. fuel PSI would be about 25 psi @ WOT 40 or better at idle. I don't believe this has anything to do with the whistle but I would get a better LP on there before it eats another IP

The overflow valve sends anything higher than 14psi right back to the tank!
