2001 wont start
Replacing the contacts will work. I could get mine to start by running a wire to the small solenoid contact & touching the battery, Replaced the contacts & all is good. Keeping OEM is much better than rebuilt junk on the market. You'll need a 10 mm box end to get the starter bolts out. I couldn't get enough leverage to turn them so got my floor jack to apply pressure & the bolts came right out. Starter removal went much quicker 2 weeks later when it came out for crank sensor install.
It's not the original starter, I think its one you can pick up at Advance Auto or something like that.
Thanks for the tips, I'm just a little frustrated because the **** thing checked out on the tester at the autoparts store so I spent the time and money building new battery cables thinking that was the problem.....Oh well, I guess that's part of being a dodge owner, you become a good mechanic!

Like I said above, if you need to use the truck now, you can pull the starter and reverse the contactors. It should work OK until you new stuff gets in. At least then you'll see if that is the problem.
Hope it works out.

01 cummins no start.
I have 2001 cummins 3500 6 speed. I just replaced the vp44 with a 24 month warranty from thoroughbred diesel and it won't start. It has fuel to the injectors and 12.12 volts at the vp44 connector. The truck only starts by hot wiring the vp44. Showing code 0341 and 1689. All fuel lines are primed. Has 211000 miles Also has an airdog that is pumping 15 PSI. Please help.
