2001 rear same as 96?
i have an 2001 single rear end, looking to swap it with a 96 rear. Are they the same? dana 60/70? my 01 has disc and 96 drums.
other than gearing and brakes, are the same?

I beleive all 2500's w/5.9 gas had a dana 60 rear, 1500's had chrysler 9 1/4. 2500's w/V10 got the same rear as the diesels, so dana 70 for auto and Dana 80 for rear.
All 3500's got a dana 80 rear, 99% positive on that.
Dana 60 has narrower spring perches for 2.5" springs vs 3" springs on 70 + 80. There are other little differences, such as tube size and overall width.
Also, disc and drum rears are not compatible, meaning you can't just swap the backing plates for the caliper brackets, the ends of the axle tubes are different. In case you were wondering!
