2001 Problem, dead peddle, no white smoke

hey guys, working on my dad's 2001. It has dead peddle every time you start driving within the first half mile and then runs perfectly normal. It will occassionally have dead peddle again but it may not be for miles. It has 10psi of fuel pressure, a new fuel filter, and I just replaced the apps with one from Timbo on this site, no help. There is no white smoke on start up and when it runs it runs great, 18mpg. It did have a 216 code but I've gotten one for a plugged fuel filter before, I know it may be the vp44 but I don't think it is. It has no symptoms besides the dead peddle? Anything I should try?

I had one to the exact same thing. Had to replace injector and lift pumps. If I had not let it go as long as I did, about a year, I probably would have got by with just the lift pump.

I am having the same problem with a 02 that I just bought, it has an automatic trans.... driving at 55 mph with 1500 rpm, the pedal would die out (no power) unless I drop the rpm to idle then it takes off again, or it would slowly downshift and take off. When in park, I would revv the engine and it would bog down between 1500 & 2000 rpm, blowing white smoke, even with the engine hot. Pcodes that showed up is 0500 and 1693, so replaced the speed sensor on the trans... no improvement. do I need to reset the APPS?

would like some help here.... thanks for letting me blog on your question...

If It's the injector pump timing piston hanging up, try 1 gal of 2 stroke oil per 1/2 tank of fuel. The added lube will keep the piston from hanging up if it's not to far gone. I have a few friends locally that use 1 gal of new veg oil per tank of fuel and that solves there dead petal issue. They go to the grocery store and get 100% pure veg oil. If that solves it that puts a red flag on your VP.
