i was just driving my truck and it went dead. I have fuel the battery charge is good. when i tried to restart the it doesnt seem to make as much noise under the hood????????? ??? ??? ???

 

Check fuel pressure first. If you don't have a gauge handy you can do it the redneck way by loosening a line between the fuel pump and injector pump and see if fuel comes out under pressure when you turn the key on. If so, then you loosen an injector line and see if fuel comes out at high pressure when you turn it over.<br><br>Note: The fuel pump may run, but that does not guarantee it's pumping anything.<br><br>If it's the pump and you're stock, with less than 100K, it's covered under the Cummins warranty, and the dealer will pay for the towing too.<br><br>Chris

 

where is the injector pump located ? are after market pumps better or another year like an 02 :'(

 

Front left side of the engine. Follow the fuel lines from the fuel filter foreward towards the fan.

 

My 99 2500 died like that and it was the injection pump.

 

GS, I think it is your injection pump!!! I also believe, your lift pump failed causing the injection pump to fail. When a lift pump fails, it usually doesn't do it while driving, because the injection pump still can draw fuel, however, when the injection pump fails, you stop dead. <br><br>Steve :-[ :-[ :-[

 

found out it was the fuel transfer pump on Friday. THen last night it did the same thing except this time i was allot further from home. Dodge did say it was warnty work. are there any guages i should buy that would help prevent this or anything else that night aid in getting me bake w/out a tow &gt;

 

A fuel pressure gauge would be nice so that you can monitor what kind of pressure the lift pump is putting out. You can replace the lift pump with either the Holley Black or a PE4200 pusher pump. Both work great.
