2 wheel peel on a 4x4?

I was just pulling my camper into some back woods camping and got into some soft sand. Look in my mirrors to see my rear tire not spinning. Had to unhook my trailer and lucky it climbed out. Why would dodge make a truck that can't drive in the sand?
VIN# 1B7KF23731J601720 Does this thing have limited slip rear end or was it not ordered?

Cheers

The build sheet on the under side of the hood will tell you if your truck is equipped with a posi......or you can jack both rear wheels off the ground and see if they both spin together in the same direction. If the wheels spin in opposite directions, you don't have a posi - or it is completely smoked! That said, posi or no posi, these trucks are a far cry from a dune buggy.......even in 4WD, they stink in the sand.....CTD's need a really wide tire to float all the weight in the soft sand.

I would have been fine if both wheels in the back were spinning. I want to know if it has posi and it is broken or if it never had it to begin with.

Give me a break. If I had only one wheel spinning on the back and I had 2 wheels spinning in total, guess which other one it was. It wasn't the spare.

How do I find out if I have a posi rear end or not? There should be a sight that decodes my PIN# to let me know. Has anyone seen it?

There should be a tag on the dif cover.
You can also jack up the rear tires, put trany in neutral and rotate a tire. What happens? If they both go the same it is a limited slip. If opposite directions it is open dif or a defective LS.

So when both spin in the same direction, its limited slip? Posi is where they spin differently?

Its quicker to look at the sticker under the hood than to call.

MasseyMan Posi and Limited Slip are the same thing. You don't have it the tires rotate in oppistie directions.

2001's have the build sticker on the inside of the glove box door.

I assumed all 4x4 trucks came with actual 4 wheel drive, but I was wrong, as mine didn't come with limited slip.

Saving for lockers.

Nope, any open diff, the tires spin in different directions, A posi, is just chevy's name for the suregrip, which is Dodge's name for a limited slip.

I don't get it......if you can't locate the build sheet (which is on the inside of the glove box door as phox indicated on your year) then just jack up the rear and spin the tires. It is very quick and simple to do. I think you may find the dealer less than helpful in this case......actually, I find the dealer to be less than helpful in most any case!
