1st gen diff. in 2nd gen?

Looking for a limited slip rear end for my 96 2500. found one out of a 1st gen truck, need to know if it will bolt in. I've done some searches couldn't find any info.

I know of people who have done the swap the other way.
The big thing is the 1st gens have 2 1/2 inch wide spring packs the 2nd gens have 3 inch wide rear leaf packs.
The 1st gen axle is just a little narrower as well.

Don't limit yourself to Cummins trucks, the V10 had the same axles configuration. That will open up the selection.
