1999 with cracked block
1999 with cracked block
I heard of a 1999 Dodge 3500 with a cracked block and 180,000 miles for sale. I have not looked at the truck yet, but have heard it is pretty sharp on the outside. It has an automatic transmission and that is about all I know. I assume it is a 4x4 but not certain. I am thinking I should be able to repair the block myself but until I look at the truck will not know for sure. Any suggestions on what a person should offer for such a vehicle? Kid that has it wants 7500.00 which I know is too much. I currently have a 2001 with around 150,000 miles and before that had a 1990 so I am pretty familiar with these trucks.
Whenever I am making an offer for a vehicle I always have a printout from Kelly Blue Book or Edmunds. I would also have a generic quote from a reputable service center detailing the cost of the repairs (even if you plan to just run Liquid Glass through the coolant system). Subtract the cost of repairs from the "True Market Value" and base your offer on that.
Always worked for me.
Always worked for me.
If you have the resources I have seen non 53 blocks for about 1500 and shot blocks going for about 2500. And yes 7500 is way to much. In perfect condition maybe but cracked block and an auto i wouldn't give that much.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
DO NOT DEPEND THAT YOU CAN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIR A CRACKED BLOCK.
Many have been attempted with general poor success. Yes, I know five of you out there have been successful. Cummins discontinued their suggestion for reapir due to lack of complete success.
