I am considering purchasing a 1999 with a 53 block that has cracked. If I just replace the block, can I use just about any year of the 24 valve? I can do the work myself but want to make sure that I do not run into problems with things not matching up. Thanks for any insight you can give me.

 

you should be ok with an 01 or 02 or for that matter any 24 valve 2nd gen engine. I'm sure there will be someone who will chime in who has done this before, but at least you can start hunting around.

 

you will need to find a block with a crank sensor or you will have to get the pcm and wire harness for the motor with out a crank sensor

 

Told the the guy that I would buy it from him last night if he would deliver it. Really do not need another project, guess I need to start looking for a block.

 

i too have the famous cracked 53 block in 99 freightliner rv csan i use a block from a dodge pick up and put all my internals heads electronics etc on it and work in the rv and i am not sure how to tell about the crank position sensor if i have one and or need one any help or direction would be superb
