Unhappy 1999 24V with little power??

im a newbie, just traded for my 1999 24V with a 6spd. it has straight pipe exhaust and a k&n filter, thats it! it doesnt seem to have alot of power, and no black smoke at all. runs great. when accelerating it seems it makes no difference whether you put it to the floor or 3/4 of the way down. also it stops pulling completely around 2600 rpm, doesnt matter it you have if to the floor or not. I was told to get a new lift pump first, then get some gauges. In the future i want big loud stacks and a lot of black smoke. oh, another ? should i get the direct replacement lift pump or the little more expensive one with the filters and everything on it?? any info is apreciated, thanks~~

Welcome to DTR .first off the 24 valve are not real peppy stock .low power could be a lift pump or filter. In order to get power you need a programmer! I like smarty it wakes them up nice. before you start modding the truck get some gauges FIRST! fuel, pyro ,boost,. if your going to do light mods a stock pump will work .only problem is stock pumps are trash. I would recommend a air dog or fass .
now that its yours I would give it a full service and have the codes pulled to see if there is anything showing . just remember !! once you get bit by the BOMB bug there is little hope for a cure
