Angry 1998 Cummings run problems

1998 dodge ram 2500 Cummings turbo 24vavle motor
92k mi. second owner.
one day I went to go somewhere and it started as always but as soon as I released the starter mode it shut right back off. first I thought it was out of fuel added 5 gal. no difference same result after trying several times it started and ran perfectly.
next day same thing, however apon further attempts I have discovered by hold key to start fir 2 - 3 sec. after it started then releaseing the starter it stays running every time.
Now I know it is NOT good for starter or flywheel to do this So I want to fix it.
I have 3 or 4 items I thought about,
1) key switch
2) in tank fuel pump
3) relay or fuel shut off solid
4) oil pressure sending unit?

first dodge cummings (old truck driver) love cummings
so I'm a little bit out of my league on this

please help I love my dodge cummings but hate dealer ships here

One thing that I think is an absolute necessity on a 24v is a fuel pressure gauge to know the output pressure of the electric lift pump. It should be in the neighborhood of 16-18 PSI. If it is consistently less than 5 PSI your VP44 injection pump will be damaged.

You might have a weak lift pump. Put a fuel pressure test gauge on it to see, then add one to the A-pillar along with boost and EGT gauges.

Welcome to the site, but please, there is no letter "g" in Cummins.
Good luck with getting the truck running.
