01 dodge fuel filter

before i started my truck was running fine. it was time to service my truck and while i was at it i decided to change the fuel filter. now i cant get any fuel to the filter. it acts like the lift pump went out, but it was working before i changed filters, so i kind of wonder. just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what could be wrong.

You may have lost prime in your lift pump. Have you tried bumping the starter to turn the lift pump on for 30 seconds?

Are you trying to watch the fuel with the reservoir cover off?

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? I would say that your LP has been dead for some time, the IP will pull it's fuel until the system is open. change LP, GET A GAUGE, check for codes and pray that you haven't damaged your IP.

Change the lift pump. My 01 did exactly the same thing. The lift pump was running but it was not pumping. To make sure I ran a spare in-line pump that I had kicking around and the fuel came pouring out of the filter. I purchased and installed a new pump, primed the filter, and the truck fired up right away.

you most likely did not damage it, my first lp went bad the same way back in '02. iput on 30,000 miles before i found out it was bad..... every time i changed filters i had to prime the canister, ( i thought that was normal) we then tested the pressure and had none, although we could hear the lp working. the vp 44 is designed to operate without a lp in some applications

Loosen the lid on the fuel filter canister when you have the LP running and see if this helps it pick up fuel.

I usually have to do something similar to this whenever I change my filter. I have a schrader valve on the line to my FP sender from the bottom of the canister. I open this when priming until I get fuel. If I don't open it, the LP generally won't pick up the fuel. And it's not a weak LP as it runs at 15-16psi at idle and never drops below 10psi even under WOT.

Both of these pumps say they are for gasoline and do not mention diesel applications. Would this make a difference?

I've been using the High pressure carter for 90,000 miles now. Replaced the stocker by putting the carter on the framerail. This way it does not have to "draw" the fuel up...it pushes the fuel up. The LP is now never starved for fuel because it is always below the level of the fuel in the tank.
