01 cummins won't start
I have a 2001 3500 6 speed cummins. I just replaced the vp44 and it won't start. I have fuel to the injectors and 12.12 volts to the vp44 connector wire. Truck only starts when I hot wire the vp44. Truck has 211000 miles. Also showing code 0341 and 1689 I also have an airdog pumping 15 psi. Please help.

If you just replaced the VP and it wont start and you have fuel coming out of the injector lines at the head then its likely that you didnt get the main VP connector secured together. They need to "snap" in place.

thank you for your response. however I did verify that the connector snapped and locked in place. Do you think it could be the camshaft position sensor? Would the cps stop it from starting? I am thinking that the ECM may be the problem. I have a 0341and 1689 code.

Did you happen to remember doing anything with the CPS connector? It is located right behind the VP. And if the CPS isnt functioning then the tach should not be moving when you're cranking the engine.

it still won't start. I took off the ECM and am sending it to Florida to have it tested. I forgot to mention that the truck did start with starting fluid, and by hot wiring the vp like mentioned before. What other sensors could be stopping it from starting. There doesn't seem to be much senors on it.

The CPS is the most likely culprit for what you described but lets see what they find about the ECM. Usually if the ECM is an issue then there's a few identifying things which may happen, like the overhead display will show some code or there wont be any chiming when you turn the key to ON or the wait to start light wont do its normal cycle. I have to say that it almost sounds like there's a connector which didnt get put back together correctly (I.e. the main VP connector) or one of the pins were damaged at some time or you simply got a faulty reman VP.

i finally got it started with the new ECM, but now at about 2100 rpm it sounds like it has a miss. What could be the problem now?
