Unplugging the EGR
read the whole thread, dude. it's been answered about 10 times already. Yes, the CEL will come on when you unplug the EGR. It is a soft code though, so your truck won't go into limp mode.
RECAP
1. Pulling the plug on the EGR will cause better mileage and fewer regens. General concesnsis is 2 MPG improvement.
2. It will not harm the components down stream. It will actually help them
3. It will generate a check engine light because the computer sees pieces of hardware missing. You will have to deal with it until a code free EGR solution is found.
4. Just unplugging the EGR will not allow soot to build up. Experiments after 6000 miles showed the exhaust pressure is enough to allow the exhaust pressure to bleed off the soot and condensation.
5. This is reversible and will leave a code stored in the ECM. The dealer may or may not see it. Depends on how thourgh he is. This means you can unplug the EGR and go to the dealer with it plugged back in.
6. Some earlier trucks act strange in the beginning. If this continues, you'll need to remove the flapper valve in the intake, or get a later update on the ECM.
7. Unplugging the EGR with a DPF delete has some short term effects on your truck. The two systems are tied together but work independantly. If the problems persist, then you have other problems which we will try to help you with.
8. DO NOT keep plugging in and unplugging the EGR. It confuses the ECM
9. Codes usually generated- P0405 and a low pressure code.
10. Codes can be cleared with an Edge or a PMT. Some have had good luck with running with the codes cleared and some have not. It's possible the flash level is the problem. Clear the codes before you start and see how it goes.
11. Best Minimum Flash levels.

i noticed on the picture that the bronze lookin pipe going from the(look like passenger side) over to the drivers side and conecting to where the egr is i have a sensor on that pipe is that something to do with the egr also? i just noticed that the engine in that picture diddnt have a sensor right there and was wondering why mine does
To all that have started this thread my hat is off to you.
That being said I do have a little problem ( I unhooked the egr and did gain mileage for a while Up to 19 MPG,,,,,,, until I hooked up a trailer, 40' dovetail tandem dual gooseneck with a New Holland tn 75 tractor and front end loader and Brush hog with water in tires HEHEHEHE LOLOLOLOL ) now the problem is that when i did pull it to the shop 38 miles away my Fuel mileage was actually worse than when i did not have it unplugged 6.5 MPG usually get 9.8 MPG.... My question is this IS THIS FAIRLY NORMAL OR DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG Or am I being to **** retentive
ALSO hyunsinsone do you have another truck other than the one in your signature if not then you are dealing with a 5.9 instead of a 6.7 if I am not mistaken

I haven't heard that one yet . .You sure you weren't fighting head winds or diving faster or something. Are you pulling these numbers off the overhead? If so, forget about that thing.
well , come to think of it there was a headwind , but i didn't think it was real bad. Could be just my imagination ........ I will hide and lurk some more and see with time....

Yes the insight will clear soft codes like any other scanner. It doesn't have the programming to clear them automatically at startup, however. Currently only the Juice w/Attitude and Bully Dog PMT carry that ability. That isn't to say that you can't just clear them manually before startup with the Insight, however.
And you don't really have to have one of those things to clear codes every time you start it. I bought a $100 code reader/clearer and clear mine once a week. Now, one of the issues my truck provides me with is that once a week I get a CAT FULL SVC REQUIRED message on the OH. This is a very irritating message because it dings at you every ten minutes. It does NOT affect the way the truck drives. I get that once a week and that is the reason I clear codes once a week. There are some guys who have gotten this code and they cannot make it go away. One person told me his PMT will clear codes but it will NOT clear the OH message...
My CC works fine too...
Now for the eerie part of my issue... It only happens every fifth day that I drive TO work. It happens at the same location within a three mile span and it doesn't seem to matter how much extra driving I do during the week. If I miss a day of work then it happens the next time I go to work. I have not tried going a different way to work yet to see if that keeps it from happening though. Strange huh???????
PS: No, I do not live near Area 51 !!!
