Worth it?

I was quoted $72 for a 3200 governor spring and install, I don't know anything about it, like what the spring itself costs and how difficult an install is and all that. I am fairly well mechanically inclined at least with gassers, but don't want to get into something that I won't be able to finish or not have the right tools for. Not to mention time is very sparse for me so I would probably rather have someone else do it so I know it is right, and I won't be without my truck. What are your thoughts on that price ect...?

thats very reasonable. I was quoted $225 for the spring install in southern california. I would have ran to him if it was 72 out the door! Take it.

If thats a reputable mechanic I'd go for that. It took me around 4.5 hours to get mine done. I also bumped the timing while I was at it. That bottom nut on the pump was a monster. I'd say work some overtime and stay warm.

the spring can be had for as low as $13 from what i have heard. installed for $72 sounds good to me. i still haven't taken the plunge into the pump yet, just minor exterior mods.

That is a very reasonale price. I'd just ask to see the spring they intend to put in before hand, and ask for the original one when done.

I bought mine from Industrial Diesel in Virginia Beach for $12.75. It took me about six or more hours but that was my fault for not sticking to the instructions posted here on this web sight. IF you are mechanically inclined and you have a third hand growing out the top of your head , you can do it in a couple hours. It is best to have someone there helping you when it comes time to install the spring itself and to have that someone stand at the turbo inlet with a piece of 3/4 ply wood in case of a run away diesel when you first start it up.

I'm surprised that WannaDiesel hasn't chimed in yet. He might drive down to help you.

Thanks for the replies everybody, the place is a reputable diesel shop so I trust that, I was just curious of if the price was good or not, I would like to get a tach before getting that spring, how hard is it to put a tach in my truck and where could I get one, I have searcherd but can't find a whole lot. If the timing is something that can be done while he is in there, I might have him do that to.

Scott, what are you volunteering me for? Michael's closer.

Seriously, $72 installed is a great deal. If I was charging to do the work I'd want around $150.

On the tach- I have the AutoMeter #2888 tach, it uses a probe that clamps to the alternator. Quick, easy install and it matches the stock dash well.

I'll do it for free if you pay me $0.45 US/mile plus expenses.
