I prefer that ribbed split plastic tubing stuff, heat-shrink, and zip-ties, for my own use.
When possible I prefer that setup also, but of course it's not suitable for every wiring loom or setup. I've been stumped on where to get a consistenly high quality convolute tube. Much of it seems to get brittle and breaks way too soon, cheap styrene plastic stuff. Any clues where to get some really tough nylon or something?

For areas with super high abrasion problems rubber fuel line can really take a beating. Not much for looks of course and works best only if you can feed wires through like a conduit.

I have used about every kind of hose there is, at one time or another, as a protective conduit for wires.

When looks are unimportant, and I have considerable length to deal with, I will split the hose, to facilitate getting the wires inside, then ziptie it together in several places.

Yup, I am more function than fluff most of the time and that process works wonderful. I have ran heater hose through the passenger compartment to make sure my RCA cables dont get rubbed. It also makes a cheap coil spring silencer.

The link I posted carries many types of split loom, poly sleeving, webbing, all kinds of stuff.

I normally use the split loom stuff but I don't use the "fittings" that come with it. Instead I normally tie everything together using Scotch brand electrical tape followed by the 1960's GM wiring harness method of coating it with either clear or black Rustoleum paint that glues and waterproofs the exterior together forever.
