wiring in cool-down timer

I have found a cool down timer for $15 that also displays voltage on a remote thumbnail LCD. It has 3 wires, hot, ignition and accessory. Do I just solder into the truck wiring harness or do I have to cut some of the wires? thanks...david

Not sure of your wiring on that device but this will save you some cypher-time on the truck ~ https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ad.php?t=96297

Specifically post three (3).

Hope it helps.

I would think a cool down timer would consist of more than 3 wires. Some interface connections for monitoring the temp for one, and a way to isolate ignition for shut down. I could be wrong, but when I hear the term cool down timer I'm thinking that the engine, fan, or pump will run for an extended period of time in order to "COOL" then turn off once a certain temp is reached. Can anyone share the manufacturers of these cool down timers? 91.5 use a wire tap. 3M makes a crimp type connector for tapping wires of different ga. Check with your local stereo shop, they should have what you need.

The Howard Van Fleet timer sold on this site has 4 wires. The ground, power, tie into ignition, and finally a green wire tied into the emergency brake switch. The timer does not sense pyro temps, but does allow the truck to idle up to 6 minutes I am happy with this product, I have installed them in all 3 of my trucks.

Kewl, Thanks BIG,

I've been thinking about this in addition to an auto start.

The harness that actually goes to the truck wiring has 3 wires. The hidden timer box also has two grounds and a purple wire that goes to the park brake to shut the truck down when released.

If your going to install an auto start the cool down timer would be redundant. Just set the autostart before you shut the key off and walk away. The autostart will shut down after a pre-set time anyways.
