Question >>> wipers quit ??? <<<

Not one of my trucks; instead, a friend called me for help in diagnosing his 1993 ?? I think ??, LE-cab.

I have not looked at the truck yet myself.

As best I gathered from our phone conversation, he was driving along with the wipers set to intermittent/delay function and all was well, then they just quit and will not work regardless of switch position.

He jumpered a HOT wire from the battery to the motor and was able to obtain wipers thus, so the problem must not be the motor.

In the past, I have read numerous threads pertaining to some problem with the delay function; I searched the stickies, but saw no mention of wipers.

What are the most likely suspects ??

Thanks.

In the deep dark reaches of the nether regions of my gray matter, I seem to recall a busted wire right near where the harness bends over the brake booster and turns sharply into the motor assembly that broke once upon a time. Kind of a bad harness routing thing.

Of course I'm assuming that he has checked the fuse. I know what assuming does.......

Is the wiper motor running just not wiping? If so there are nylon cups that hold the linkage together that get old and crumble. You can get these at a parts house. I have installed three sets of these and never had a wiper motor to fail. Hope this helps.

I will relay that information and have him take a look.

NOPE; it's not a linkage problem.

We already been there and done that a few weeks ago.

Anyone got a link to a '92 or '93 wiring schematic? The 91.5 in the sticky only shows the 2 speed wiper setup not the delay style.

I talked with the truck's owner again today and confirmed that he did install a brand-new multi-function switch in the column when these wipers first quit and the new switch has not fixed the problem.

All the fuses are good also.
