Wipers
My wipers just quit. No grunting and groaning. No slowing down. Just quit after 22 yrs. I only used them when it rained. I sprayed wd-40 on the stalk and everything!! Nada. Does anyone know how the switch on the turn signal stalk works. I think there is just 2wires going to the motor. There may be a hum coming from that direction.

Look under the cowl piece in the front by windshield it's held on with about 7 screw's under that is the wiper assy there is a Plastic bushing that break's and stop's the wiper's from moving I would First make sure you have Power to motor then check the bushing.

i also think you should check for power at the motor. there should be 1 wire at the motor that will have power even if the wipers are not. then there should be 1 that gets power on low and then the other should get power when on high.

As some folks know, there are actually THREE bushings, one at the motor and one on each wiper pivot.
While you have it that far apart, might as well do all 3.
IIWM, I'd just go get the Chrysler bushings, they lasted 20-odd years the 1st time around and I've had the HELP! ones go bad in a month before.

Welcome to the club. You should try having that happen during a whiteout snow storm. You'd look as funny as I did traveling down a highway @ 50 mph with a squeegie in your hand clearing the built up snow on your windshield.
Don't waste your time changing one bushing. Change them all.

lol. that would be funny to see.
funny enough my wipers quit working while i was in the bank. apparently my wiper motor has got a bad ground connection after 30 years. i don't know if the bushing are original or not but i have a feeling they might be.

i would grab a piece of wire and try running a ground wire to the motor with the switch on. could just be as simple as a bad ground. i know i was able to verify i had a bad ground connection on my 81 using a screw driver.

I just went through this not long ago. I have a 89 column in my crewcab. I replaced the intermittent turn signal stock, and the intermittent relay under the dash...still did not work. Removed the motor and bench tested it...it turned just fine. Hooked everything back up and still nothing. So went to the wreckers and grab a new'er motor off a caravan...made a jump wire plug from my wiring harness to the new motor...don't forget the external ground...and it worked perfect. So swapped in the new motor and I was back on the road.
You can see what I did here...page 4 near the bottom...

old threads are your friends...
Simplest troubleshooting method here and definitely the one I use first.

The single most helpful tool to remove and replace the bushings in the wiper linkage is a good pair of Channel Locks.
