Will This Fit?
I was wondering how 285/75/16's on stock chrome 16 x 7 wheels off a 98 will fit on a 93? What is the biggest I can go without a lift on a 93? I can either use the dodge chrome 16 x 7 wheels, or I also have 15 x 8's that can fit. Just wondering how big of tire I can fit with either of those options on my 93.
I'm running 285/75/16's on my truck with almost no rubbing issue's. My tires will only rub if I drive over a bump, like a curb or steep drive way, when turning sharply. My truck also sits about an inch lower than most 92 - 93's that I have seen.
Will a 15 inch wheel even clear our brakes? I have been thinking the same thing. A 285 is just short of a 33 inch tire for all intents and purposes. A stock 4x4 should take a 33 with out a lift but I havent seen a stock 4x up close. My buddy has a truck with a four inch lift that clears 35's just fine.
I put 16 aluminum wheels on my truck and on the front they just barely touch the brake caliper mounting bracket. Not enough to cause an issue, just enough to make a slight scrapping noise when free spun. To fit a 15" wheel on there you would need to grind at least a 1/2" of material off of the caliper mounting bracket and the caliper. I've seen it done on a 3/4 ton dana 44 under a jeep, but I wouldn't do it to my dodge.
Yeah, I had to grind alot to fit the 15's, but I didn't really have a choice at the time. I bought it with 16.5 and bald crap tires, I had the 15" wheels at home and lots of options for 15" tires. I don't want to deal with 16.5s. So I have 15s on it right now until I can get my 16" 98 stockers on it, and when I do I'd like to put 285s on.

It seems like on my buddies jeep he didn't have to grind anything important. I can't blame you for not wanting to have anything to do with 16.5's, I passed up a cheap set of nice rims because they were 16.5's.
I run 285/75/16 on 16X8 American Racing wheels on my 4wd, the wheels are for a 1st gen. The 2nd gen wheels have a different offset, I know some guys run those wheels and hopefully they will respond.
My tire size is different here, I run 37/12.5/17's on 17x8 wheels, with minimal rubbing when I have some suspension deflection at half-lock. The issue I had was w/ backspacing. The wheels were originally for a 2nd gen, and I'm running 1 1/2" spacers front and 2" back to make it look right. I like the look of a rim w/ less dish, but the spacers are a PITA
