Is it all in the pump?
I've seen claims around 300 hp with the 1st gen but nothing more.
The 2nd gen trucks are stomping well beyond that.
What can we do to get more?

Re:why can't we match the power of a 2nd Gen?

You are right feets, the major factor that is holding us back is the VE pump. One reason is there are more info out on the P pump as well as aftermarket parts. 3k-4k gov springs, torque plate, cut delivery valves, etc. There is just a bigger market for the 2nd gen trucks. One thing that makes the inline pump stronger is the fact that it has 6 plunger and barrel assemblies and 6 delivery valves, it is capable of flowing alot more fuel than ours. The VE has 1 main plunger assembly and 6 delivery valves. This is where the name distributor pump falls into place. Not too mention the inline is oil lubricated in some areas. One other factor too consider is the 2nd gen head is capable of flowing up to 40%more air. There is alot of talk goin on about the VE pump right now. Just look at the topics that have been discussed on this page and the TDR. Alot of new and exciting things are coming out of the woodwork. Head, intake, and exhaust porting, cam changes, parellel and compound turbo setups, gov spring changes etc. After it is all said and done, I wouldnt be surprised to see a 400+ VE pump truck running around. ;D Hang in there.

That's low compared to some in here. Ask JohnP or Ramminon what they are doing. As I remember, they were well over 400 and improving on that. You have to spend some bucks but you can get there for sure.

DieselDude,

He was reffering to the 1st gens, not the 2nd gens. We all know there are some in the 800+ range.

OOPS, nevermind.
You could still do it but it may take some bucks to change a pump over.
