White/Blue Smoke... Not your typical cold start thread.

This has been going on for about 3 weeks now. After I let the truck sit for a couple hours and go to start it. it starts quickly but sounds like it is running on 3 or 4 cylinders and has massive amounts of blue/white smoke. When i hit the throttle it misses, sputtereds, and will take a while to build rpms. it will run like this for about 40minutes to an hour till it can be driven. Even then it is very slow and doesnt build boost past 15psi. It will clear out eventually and run like there was nothing wrong.
So far I replaced all 6 injection lines, they were kinda rusty, Fuel return line from the IP to the Tee fitting on the back of the engine. My Injection pump was loose and moved around by itself. So i set the timing back ot the factory marks. I noticed the loose IP when i changed the lines. Next will be the lift pump.

Do you guys think it is just alot of air getting in the fuel or injectors are going bad? I am almost out of ideas. Also i took the drivers side intercooler boot off and saw some water in the tubing. I dont know if it is just condesation or coolant.

If your lines were rusty i bet the injectors are too. Might take them out and look at them.

White smoke is not good... Check your oil,see how it looks. Could be head gasket. Check your fuel lines from the sending unit in tank all the way to lift pump. Friend of mine had a pinhole in the line coming out of the sending unit, truck ran like crap.

White/blue smoke makes me think fuel system related issue. Like mentioned above, an injector and fuel supply line check is in order. Might also get the pump timed with an actual dial indicator.

Did the truck run ok before this?

Oil level actually dropped some. but there is none in the coolent and the coolant level is staying steady. truck ran good before this started happening.

It sounds like your sucking air in your fuel line or filter or something, that will also get you white smoke I've heard. If it came on all of a sudden might be your lift pump. I just replaced mine 2 months ago, it actually lost prime sitting in the driveway,I could get fuel out of the injector lines, but not enough to start it, when i couldn't get it primed is when i realized the lift pump was junk. Pull the in line off(has the clip set up on it) and pump the hand pump with your finger over the inlet. If it doesn't show GOOD suction, replace it.

It sure sounds like air in the system.

pressurize the fuel system by putting air into the gas tank (shop rag and air compressor). then try to look for fuel leaking.

did you get that S-wrench to tighten up the injection pump bolts. if you need one let me know i will be coming up that way this weekend.

Yep i picked it up last night from snap-on. Thanks for your offer though. I got it all tightened up and not leaking oil there anymore.

I have to agree with it being air in the fuel lines. Use a chunk of clear hose from the hard line by the frame rail to the lift pump. While the truck is running look for air bubbles in the clear line. If there is any you will need to find the hole and replace that chunk of line. The air will make the truck miss and stumble. This would also explain your low power/boost condition.

I might just ditch all the factory plastic fuel line and get Inline Tube out of Michigan, bend me a nice set of Stainless steel oversized fuel lines with stainless steel braided at the ends. i am going to try the clear hose idea and if that is the problem i am sending the lines to Inline tube. Any problems going that route you think?

if you pressurize the fuel system it will allow you to see where the leak is. you may not have to go to all the trouble of replacing all the lines.

unless if you plan to go over the 400 hp mark down the road you will see no benefit to adding larger fuel lines so. it would be a waste.
