I never had any respect for the Dodge portion of the truck, other than the Cummins engine and the Dana axles the rest of the vehicle I considered strictly junk.
The thing (W350) rode like a buckboard, so rough that when it was new I thought I was having heart trouble. My chest hurt bad, then I drove a company vehicle (GM) for a while, chest pain went away -- then I realized the Dodge rode so rough it was causing my internal organs to stress my diaphragm.

It is great that some can see beauty in these old 1st gens and the photos here certainly demonstrate that.

I work a truck hard and when the useful life is gone there is no sentimentality involved.

The only vehicle that has any special meaning is a 409 c.i. 4 speed black 1964 Chevrolet Super Sport purchased new, probably because of what happened in the back seat more than of the vehicle itself.

All right, I will admit I kinda agree with you. Its the motor for me too. If it was in a chevy or ford I would like it as much as my dodges.

I prefer the truck over a Chevy or Ford. Not just the engine for me. They ride like crap because they are a truck and not a Cadillac.

GM with the bright idea of independent 4wd front ends is not the greatest if you ask me. The '88-98 body style GM is a nice truck and fairly simple to work on with room under the hood and body bolts easy to get to and so on. Ford on the other hand, TTB? Not sure what the purpose of that was. If it was ride, FAIL. If it was to make fixing easier, FAIL. Alignment, FAIL. I have never worked on (American Truck) something as poorly built as a Ford truck.

These are my personal opinions so don't take it to heart

I was into Dodge's before Cummins, and I will be into Dodge's after Cummins!

My dream truck would be a 1985 Crew cab sitting on its own frame, with a 1991-93 LE dually bed, 1991-93 fenders, grille, and rad support. With a regular VE pumped 12v, a NV4500 tranny, and a 3.54 filled D60 in front and D70 in the back. With a beautiful set of 16" dually Alcoa's all the way around. The interior would be all new in charcole with captains/console up front and a bench in the rear. All four doors would have power windows and locks. It would be two toned flame red top and bottom with sabre grey metalic in the middle. The truck would set factory hieght in the back and have a set of Skyjacker 2" cummins springs in the front for that perfect stance! Thats my perfect truck!!!!!

Or a 1949 B1 flat fender power wagon with a cummins and a nv4500! Heck im not picky

i'm about to build my dream 1st gen. a single wheel four door long bed. i'm putting a four door cab off of an 86 dodge onto it. putting a 97 12v in with a nv4500. upgrade to dana 80 rearend. doing some head work, pump work, and upgrade injectors and turbo. 4 inch turbo back exhaust to 5 inch tip. not sure of paint color yet. i'll be sure to post pics when done.

A Little Red Express or Warloack, 4BTA, Eaton 8LL OD, or 13sp double over, stacks beside the bed, with filler panels on the bed and a tonneau cover for aerodynamics, or maybe a cap set up as a sleeper. It would be a high speed road trip truck.
