Any thoughts on this, I am wondering how much it will be to fix, or I may upgrade. Is there an easy fix I can do to get the truck home? What should I check?

I'm not sure what the problem would be. But for a decent upgrade on a 518 it will cost around 1300-1800 for a total overhaul/Kevlar internals/performance valve body/good torque converter, assuming your not pushing over 350hp. Once you hit that 350 hp area prices on the transmission rebuilds jump drastically to hold up to the power.

And is it stuck in second even from a dead stop. or just when you shift into second it wont go into 3-4?

Maybe BC will be around here soon. He should be able to help ya out.

Does it stick in 2nd only or does in shift to 2nd and not up to 3rd?? My '92 gasser did that when the sun gear in the overdrive bit the dust and proceded to tear up the rest of the tranny. Good luck.

Are you 100% sure it's not starting out in 3rd? A stuck governor valve in the tailhousing could make it do that.
If you have a pressure gauge, at least a 0-100, hook it up to the gov test port and see if that is the issue. If it is, it can be fixed relatively cheaply and easily.
