The little round thingy in the middle of the frame is the fuel shutoff solenoid. It should have +12v on the terminal with the key on and 0 when it's off.

Ok after getting home I was able to test it with a voltage tester and I am getting 11.6 volts to the tab I know it’s not 12 so what are my next options?

You can take it out and inspect the plunger on the end. If it looks ok, you can remove it, reinstall the solenoid in the pump and start the truck. You will have to use the shut down lever to kill the engine.

If you do replace it, used to be the VW part was cheaper than Cummins and they are interchangeable.

Well its called a fuel shut off solenoid for a reason.....

Provided you have a good fuel supply and no internal issues in the pump, that solenoid could fail and leave you with a no start situation.

You could just run a jumper wire from the battery positive to the solenoid and crank it, if you feel your factory harness is questionable.

You don't even need that to start and run. Quite a few members here (myself included) have changed over to the manual shut off cable.

Do a search for fuel shut off solenoid in the 1st gen forums, there is lots of good info in old threads.

I tried jumping it straight from the battery and you can here it click along with do everything else sounds like it’s on the fender or something tried to start the truck after that it ran for 30 seconds then shut back down and now all it will do is crank so going to try and remove this to see if the truck runs

When you remove it there is a plunger and spring that you will remove from it then screw it back in, if it runs fine after that then the solenoid is bad and either replace it or just rig a pull cable to the manual shut down lever

I see in your other thread that you are having problems with your lift pump, have you verified that it is working?

I took the positive from the air dog ran a wire out and around the truck and touched it directly to the positive on the battery and boom it turned on so that not my issue I also just ordered a set of guages and a gauge pod so waiting for that to get here I removed that little black plunger had my dad touch the wire from the fuel pump as I turned the key and hoop start up repeat his process 5 times and it worked every time so I believe I need to order that solenoid,

Ok not really following you on that, so you removed the plunger (gutted it) then put the gutted solenoid back in and it starts and runs fine?
