What tranny to convert to

So now my truck is down after a failed attempt to convert it to a 5 speed nV4500 kit. I returned the parts, got my money back and now what are my opitions.

Is it really worth it to convert then to just rebuild the 727? What other auto trans would work fairly easily? All I really want is something that I can be direct gear hook up so I can use a exhaust brake later on. I would also like to have the overdrive for better mileage. I have a over/under that I got at a swap meet. Any ideas, horror stories, anything........

What auto transmission would work best in a conversion?

I'd use a 94-95 diesel/V-10 auto/OD. You control the lockup and OD electronically with this unit (simple switches no computer requried). I am not positive about the bell housing bolt pattern though. I can measure one or e-mail you a picture if you want. They bolt to the adapter that bolts to the block. There are some adapters on E-bay right now.

what type of tranny is that? I am not to familiar with the types. There is the 518, 618 and the 4rh stuff. There are no computers for the overdrive and just a button, that sounds pretty cool.

Hmm that is interesting. Do you know if it will fit in the space provided?

It should, there is usually a lot of room on trucks.

1991 standard cab, 4x4, non intercooled. It used to have the A727 with the NP205 TC.

I don't know about hooking up to the x-fer case, you will need to check that. better check spline count also.

If I can help you let me know, I have the 47RH out and can take pictures and make measurements for you if you would like. It is from a 4X4.

I don't want to sell these units that I have, I rebuild and upgrade them for friends and family so I need the "cores". But I am happy to help you out.

I think most trannies other than the 727 and possibly the 518 are 29 spline. You should consider finding another xfer case or rebuilding yours with the 29 spline input. I believe quad 4x4 has a kit to do it however im not sure if you have to do any machining to the case.
