The company I work for has three ag spray rigs that run the 5.9 industrial version, one (GVM) uses the 5 speed Allison and the other two (AgChem) are coupled to a large hydro trans. These engines run wide open for 95% of a normal seasonal workday (12-14 hrs) and so far no trouble, each has 3000+ hrs. We also have a Ferd 800 w/5.9 hooked to a 5speed.

Unfortunately Cummins is no longer optional equipment for any Freightliner, Western Star, or Sterling Truck. For whatever reason the big heads at Daimler-Benz figured that since they owned Detroit Diesel as well that they should either have MB or DD engines in them. Weird though, they didn't give the boot to Caterpillar.

Oh, yeah back to the original purpose of the post. We have Cummins B5.9's in all of our Sterling service trucks. They are rated at 260/660 and will pull 30K lbs. like it isn't even there. Too bad they have VP's on them! They're all '02's and only one has dropped a VP so far, that was thanks to a cracked return line. Not quite sure how that happens!?

The Yard Dog, a Capacity twin screw spotter tractor, has a 12 valve in it. It pulls dump trailers around loaded with 50,000 pounds of fluff all day.

And just as a side note the 190hp CPL's use the same Ppump as the 215 CPL's.

I've seen the 5.9 in Case and AGCO tractors as well as some of the older Massey combines. I also know that the 1254 RoGator runs a 5.9 as well.

According to Cummins it is the most successful engine they've ever sold. 3 million+ units. 1 million of which went into Dodge pickups.

The Navy uses the 5.9L in some of it's aircraft tow tractors. about 40,000lbs of tow tractor plus 90-120,000lbs of aircraft. now that's some bragging rights.

Very popular in boats...
I repowered one with a 270 hp version about 5 years ago. It was P Pumped.
They range in hp from about 130 hp in a naturally aspirated version to 385 hp in the latest electronic version.
