What is the common size tire for 16x7 wheels?

Just wanted to know what is the most common size of tire run on 16x7 wheels? I was recently told by my local tire store that 235/85/16's are obsolete. They claim that this tire size is only popular with farmers and people who haul trailors. I realize that 235's are skinny tires.........but what size of tire would look/be most appropriate for 16x7 wheels?

I think you need to find a new tire shop. Around here that's pretty much the size tire people run on duallies. More common sizes are 245 or 265/75, alot of trucks came from the factory with these sizes.

Are 265/85/16 wider than 235/85/16? I thought that the 85 would be the width? I have 235/85/16 on my 16x8 weld wheels and they are pretty skinny. What would be a good next tire size i should look at getting? I'd like them wider!

I think your tire shop is on crack saying 235/85/16's are obsolete. Thats all we run. Tall skinny tires like this size will give you better mileage and better traction than a same height wider tire.

285/75R16's would look nice on 16x8's.

265's are wider that 235's. For example, 235/85R16, 235 is the tread width in mm's, 85 is the aspect ratio or height of the sidewall as a percentage of the width, and 16 is of course 16 inch rim.

Here's one of many links out there that convert tire sizes.

235-85/16 is the wides you can go on stock dualie wheels, factory was 215/85/16. Under heavy load the sidewalls of the 235's just touch, but not enough to scuff...

Find a new tire shop. I did some looking around for my Alocas. Stock tires on fords with Alocas are 235/85r16. My Alocas that I have not put on the truck yet came with 265/75r16 which is probally the best fit for the slightly wider rim. I love the tall skinny look myself so I have been doing some more looking around at different sizes. The 265/75r16 are within 5% of the stock 235/85r16 from what I have found if your worried about speedo correctness. Anyother recommendations on tire sizes? I was accutally going to post the same question yesterday but was sent on a road trip with work.

I'm running 255/85R16s on my stock wheels and they're a perfect fit...265s are about the widest you can go on the stock wheels, 285s should have atleast an 8" wide wheel. I have a set of 35x12.50s going on 17x9s next week...
