What is this

Hi all I was doing some wiring under dash and touched this silver thing it was warm kept checking all day it and was the same I have attatched a picture sorry its a little fuzzy Its right around the steering collum its pluged into a harnes that has 1 pink wire 1 yellow and 1 yellow w red stripe it looks similar to a turn signal flasher except slimer

Does anyone know what it is and is it normal to be warm

That's the timer for the halo ring around the ignition lock. Warm is normal.

So my halo ring should work?? My dad has a 90 dodge spirit that has this but I thought with mine being a truck it was just decoration.

Wow! I just happened to be giving mine a wipe down inside this evening and got "burned" on the same thing (fiddling w/ the E-brake linkage)! Glad to know it's normal for it to other than ambient!

Just try and replace the bulb in it first if its not working

If you would have closed the driver’s door while you were watching it, it would have cooled off.
Although it does not get as hot as the courtesy lamp bulb across the back of your hand it still can leave a blister.
