Weird overheating
Me and a buddy were out driving around filming the drive. Got into the throttle good off the line. EGTs were fine. Smelled a weird smell though, and looked down to see water temp real close, halfway between lines, to the hot line. It always runs a little warmer than normal, probably cause of the n/i downflow radiator. Last summer I put in a new water pump and thermostat, and had the radiator rotted. Whats up with this? It was the first and only time to jump that fast.
Sounds like a bad fan-clutch to me.
Also, it never ceases to amaze me how Chrysler expects a workhorse like these trucks to stay alive with the tiny little radiators that they put in front of them.
The radiator that came original on my Ford has more capacity hanging below the bumper than the Dodge has in the whole thing.
Up hill and down, loaded heavy, over 100* heat outside, pedal to the floor all the way up long grades, EGT through the roof, and I have never saw the temperature gauge above 180*, ever.
The Dodge, on the other hand, will get way up there just normal empty cruising around.
Someone on here, I can't remember who, was in the process of grafting a Ford radiator into their Dodge; but, I never heard how that came out.

Thanks Yall. We checked my fan clutch last summer too, and it seemed to be kicking in fine, but that doesnt mean much. Im hunting for a intercooled model radiator. Til then, just have to keep an eye on things.
