Weekend Adventure & McMopar Kudos

My son & I left Friday for Chapel Hill to spend the night with a bud. We were both going to visit McMopar for a little specialized TLC.

Saturday found us at his place with a decent laundry list of items. Mine needed the tranny inspected & serviced by a pro and the 3200spring installed. My buds needs a general checkup to find a miss on his 2nd Gen.

Phil tore into the tranny, taking time to show/explain what did what, and pronounced it healthy enough to get some lovin'. While he was underneath taking an ATF shower, my bud & I followed the excellent 3200spring write-up (with pics) and dismantled the top on my VE. While we found a few gotchas that could be appended to the pictorial instructions, it went smoothly. I ended up pulling the full power screw to get the cover on, but put it back to OEM (if not a slight bit less )... not to worry! It'll get a twist or 2 before long! Despite setting the idle multiple times, it managed to drop well below 500rpm on the road back to my buds house last night. I band-aided it by slipping a plastic cap over the end to bump the idle back to 750...

While the power didn't increase much, the shifting is a bit more positive and she'll pull to above the 3200 rpm mark (chickened out @ 3300). I still need to fine tune the idle, adj. the TPS (OD comes in VERY early @ WOT), check that the fan on the "Super Dooty" cooler is working (got the tranny to 220* doing WOT up a hill... BUT the EGTs never passed 900* ) and a couple of minor tweaks before the 20ths run to TN.

Phil & my bud found his ails pretty quickly afterwards also.

I'd like to thank Phil for all he did "above & beyond"... he made several tweaks, including replacing the wobbly detent lever/spring/ball & installing an AL accumulator piston. Not to mention his wife/son keeping my son company over 7-8 hours. If your fortunate enough to be able to spend some time hanging out with him or better yet, him hanging out with your rig, I highly recommend his services... he did exactly what he said he'd do and IMO is very reasonable.

Also kudos to GSK for the hospitality and excellent adult beverages back at his place... see you again in a couple weeks!
