Weakest Parts on a 12v

What are the weakest parts on a 12v? Not the whole truck, just the engine.

Kind of a vague question but I would say the stock lift pump.

The kdp and the timing case bolts can do some damage also. Use the search feature and look them up you'll see what I mean.

The 6BT engine was designed and built for Agricultural and Industrial applications and was a proven engine for years before it appeared in the Dodge Truck.

When they installed the electronic management systems they created the weak link.

These engines were designed to work as one piece for their lifetime. There are no real fuses, because at factory specs none are needed. They can be run at their governed speed/horsepower their entire life.

However, once modifications are done, those factory specs are stretched a bit. What are your plans for your engine? If it stays stock, or only gets pump tweaks, there will be no weak links.

One thing that does come to mind is valvesprings. They are a light spring so the cam doesn't get wiped throughout the engines expectedly long service life. If you add any RPM capabilities to it they will need upgraded.

Remember, the 3k rpms/350hp is 100% ish duty cycle.

The duty cycles on our trucks is a lot less.

Yeah, but that duty cycle increases exponentially if those parameters are surpassed. The RPM more so than the HP one, obviously.

I'd have to say as far as the 12v long block, excluding all the bolt on things like fuel and air supply, the first weak link IMO is stock head bolts. Even in stock power trucks the first failure is HG. If your HG is good and your not going over 45psi, just retorque the stock bolts and you should be fine.

Second would be the valves at higher RPM. The higher the boost, the lower the RPM you can safely run before a piston meets a valve. With a 3200rpm spring your pretty safe. Above that I'd suggest a set of 60lb springs.
