We need better mpg's
We need better mpg's
Anyone know, someone knows, how to tune these 1st gen diesels for the best fuel economy they can get? And are there any tricks to make them get better mpg's besides just tune settings?
I heard once that hotter/heated fuel can give you better mpg. Don't know if that's true though. Also heard that if tuned right it's possible to get 25 mpg out of these? What's the best mpg's anyone is getting or have heard of?
The best I've ever gotten was 18.3 at 65 with a tailwind.
Any and all fuel economy tricks are much appreciated. Sorry if there is another thread somewhere covering these things. I missed it.

I see the truck industry going to go to a Aluminum magnesium alloy frame to cut down on LB. I get 20 MPG on the W350 with 3:54 and a 5 speed empty the worst was 14 pulling a box car trailer keeping up with a duramax 4 door pulling the same kind of box trailer. We used the same amount of diesel every time we filled up. Duramax was a auto trans truck
Keep the RPMs low tire PSI up to the max and time your red lights. I think Dodge made the body's thin enough ya think

Well, you have 2 things against you to start off of.
Auto and 4x4.
If you want great mileage, save money for a cheap econo car. I have a 1994 Honda Accord with a 16v 4 cylinder engine and an auto. I get 28-30mpg mixed hand calculated. 205k miles running strong.
Also have the golf in my sig. Before the sub frame took a crap resulting in less MPG due to bad alignment, I got 45 avg MPG hand calculated. Not bad for a 350k mile car...
Both cars cost around $1500 each.

Straight pipe if you don't have it. BHAF or a fresh airfilter always gave me a mpg bump. Tires at max pressure and a good alignment. Get rid of unnecessary weight in the truck. Those are some simple ways for cheap. Keeping the engine below 2000 rpms will help. 20-22mpg (24.2 best)is what I'm getting with the w250 in my sig.
I've got to get ahold of colt cams, Hamilton left me a message the other day that they have a cam that will peak it out a little lower than what he has. I'm going to try to go with getting my power coming in lower and getting an OD and tighter converter in it.
The best I've calculated (I've only run a couple tanks) was about 23, at 65-70MPH.

I was getting 21mpg on my auto 4x4 3.54 gears with straight exaust, 14cm huffer large intercooler and slight pump tune. That's not to bad for a 4x4 with that hugh chunk of iron up front.
I think I'm going to replace the injectors soon with maybe stock or upgrade slightly.
