My spring crosses over under the linkage also I have never had any issues. One other thing thta you might want to check is that the linkage opposite the ball is not hitting the fuel line. The i/c trucks have slightly different fuel line routing and when I backed my high idle screw out that is what it hit next before it hit the high idle screw boss on the pump.
