VE pump settings & fun factor

Since i got my 91.5 a month ago I have. . . .

Turned up smoke screw till it, well, ummm . . . smokes
Turned the full power screw in all the way
Raised the high idle screw setting . . . much nicer to drive
Turned the star wheel 1.5 turns & the diaphragm 90 degrees

Man that star wheel & diaphragm setting livened the truck up around town.

I thought this truck was gutless in stock trim, now it's actually fun.

Now i just need bigger injectors & a tighter converter.

Funny thing is, its only running 22 psi of boost & i can't get enough fuel at full power to make it smoke even with the full power screw all the way in.

Is there a photo of the full power screw? Is it somewhat blocked by one fuel line? I think I may have located mine but not all that sure at the moment. I'll be taking a picture later.

Now get a 3200 rpm governor spring installed and you will wonder why you didn't do it first. Much better driving truck and you can cruise all day with just a toe touch of the throttle. Plus you can back off the full load fuel screw and still have the power without killing your pump.

I am not sure 100%, but I beleive it is the one in front here in this pic, with the anti-tamper cone shaped cap on it. There used to be an exploded veiw diagram of the pump on here somewhere, but a search isnt finding it now.
i am sure someone will chime in and educate us both if i am wrong.. at least I hope they will!

Nope, that is the high idle screw or the upper rpm limit. The full power fuel screw is on the rear of the pump towards the engine block just below the slow idle screw kind of. Here is a link to help out.

Sorry I had to edit, I left out the link and you were too quick on the draw for me.

The picture of the screw you are showing is throttle stop so to speak. The fuel rate adjustment is also tamper proof and is in closer to the cylinder head. Adjusting this will raise the idle as you increase the fuel rate. Be careful not to adjust to far this can override the governor and cause a runaway condition.Just a turn and half is a good place to start and quite noticeable. From there I think you are on the right track with larger nozzles.Have fun

Here is a link that shows good close up pictures of the pump. It is a VE off a VW diesel but is the same insides with just two less cylinders.

I see in your signature that you have a wastegated housing on the turbo. My guess is it is set at 22 psi of boost and that is why you can only get 22. You might want to check that out and see where it is opening at. If 22, adjust it so the opening comes on higher up to give you a little more power at the top end.

Actually I have the fuel turned up a high as it will go & I have turned up the wastegate. The factory Banks setting was 18 psi. Maybe the fuel screw isn't actually bottomed all the way like i thought??

If you think the AFC settings helped a lot, you should get a 3200 RPM spring.
