VE front seal same as VP44 front seal?

Well my buddy had a core VP44 in his shop the other day and I was lookin at it, looks pretty similar to the VE since its a rotary pump just electronic if you ask me. I've never really torn into one but are they pretty similar inside? But what caught my attention is the front seal on the VP44 looked almost identical to the front seals on the VE??? Can't the VP44s hold like 20 psi of fuel pressure? so why can't our VE's? The pump shaft on the VP44 seemed bigger, but thats about it, I kinda want to get it from him and tear it apart to see how it works, but I think thats what he wants to do with it. I was just kinda curious about this.

I have never torn one apart, but I have read about them some. I think they have 3 radial plungers inside. They do have the same basic idea of the timing piston setup though.

I've read numerous times that the VP44 is an electronic VE....

They're both rotary or distributor style pumps.

So why can't our front seals hold more pressure like the VP44s can? the seal looked identical to me.

i want to know where the "20 psi max" rumor started. i never hear of anyone blowing them out unless they are trying. i know 1stgenjake is running 22psi and im at about 19 at idle.

Because guys with 400K pumps are putting too much pressure on an already weak seal having it blow out and then saying it can only handle 15psi. If you put it in with locktite I hear in the twenties up to thirty will hold just fine. (THATS WHAT I HEAR, NEVER TRIED IT MY SELF). I've never seen past 18 with my set up, but it's never leaked........yet.

I have just read a little that the VP44s should run around 15-20 psi and that anything under 10 isn't good for them and they will fail. I don't know for sure, since I'm not a 24 valve guy. You are pushing 19 psi to your VE? Yes I've heard of loctiting the front seal that will help, I'm just afraid of blowin mine out, I don't want to mix fuel with my oil and not catch it soon enough, thats the scary part. What is the P-pump front seal like and can't it hold quite a bit of pressure? like 60+psi?

yeah i doubt ill change the stock filter setup. i plan on doing a sump and 1/2" lines to the piston pump and leaving it at that.

My grandpa's '02 has a FASS Raptor pump and his Edge monitor shows 18psi at idle. Haven't noticed what it draws down to when getting heavy on the skinny pedal. And I believe the VP's inlet is through the side of the pump. That being the case, maybe the inlet pressure from the lift pump isn't acting directly on the front seal as it is on our VE's??
