Vast Difference

I did the tapered lug nut thing today on the 92. I loosened all the lug nuts and removed two opposite of each other and replaced with the tapered ones to align the wheels. Then after tightning the factory nuts back up I removed the tapered ones and replaced the factory ones there too. Just did the front today and what a difference in ride quality. Coming in from Abilene last night I noticed the mirrows shaking and a little bounce but after just doing the front it almost took all of the shake out of the ole girl, will do the rears tomorrow. It's a good cheap fix for ride quality.

Great to hear. Can't wait to do mine when they come in tomorrow or the day after. The bouncing makes the girl not want to ride in it as much.... kind of opposite of what you'd think a female would say about a vibrating truck

It took 95% of the shake out of the truck. It's worth the 30 minutes to do it. Tomorrow i'll do the back and hope it takes the rest out.

It only works on the front, the rears are ok as they are.

I'd love to do this.

What do you have to get exactly?

The Head you don't have to do this on your 3/4 ton. It's the duallies that have this problem.

if you have flange type nuts, they should still work with your Alcoas. Just don't torque them too much as dimple the wheel. Just snug them up so they are centered and put the others on.

i'll have to get me 2 conical lug nuts then. i would imagine just snug against the wheel to hold it in place would be tight enough? thanks dzl_damon!!

dealership had them for about $4 a peice. They didn't know about them until I gave them the part number. Look in the sticky. Wannadiesel wrote something about it like "Must read for all dually owners". The part number is in there I think, or just search for it and It'll pop up. I got deer in headlights from Napa, so I just have the part number to the dealership and bang... it'll be here in a couple days! Hope before my road trip to Mass! This bouncing has been driving me NUTS and having front end shops just tell me different, false things are wrong

Unless stud diameter changed, and I doubt it did, there is nothing special about the conical nuts; they should be the same as were used on all the DRW Dodges prior to the advent of the flanged nuts.

Any respectable parts-store should have them; just ask for lug-nuts for a late-70s to mid-80s DRW Dodge (unless they changed the stud size).

I bet the ones for a pre-1984 Ford are also the same; the Fords also used Danas and the very same coined wheels.

Yeah, I think those are pretty common for a 5/8" stud. Not sure of the pitch though. I keep a couple in my toolbox.
