used the wrong tap

So I went to bottom tap my block today and somehow used a 12 x 1.5 tap instead of 1.75. Found out when I pulled threads out of the block going to 90 ft-lbs. Will I beok drilling and tapping theblockfor 13 by 1.75 bolts? Or does anyone have a better idea?

P.s. I know I'm an idiot, no need to tell me now.

14 mm studs

one stud thirteen is ok otherwise you have to go up on all of them to some ARP?
so you get even head pressure on expansion and contracting of the block

If it is no more than 10% of the studs in use, I would use a helicoil thread repair kit. If installed correct there will be no issue.

hey-Hey!!!,
Make the decision with the tap drill requirements for bigger studs. If the tap drill isn't bigger than 12mm you're not going to get full threads out of the bigger size you'll be going to.

http://www.engineersedge.com/manufac...rill-chart.htm

All the 14mm threads want 12mm or bigger( getting to 13mm for M14x1 ). Even M14x2 takes 12mm tap drill. What thread are the 14mm? M14x1.5 sounds likely.

As an aside, does 14mm studs require poking larger holes in the head or head gasket, or perhaps a special gasket?
cheers,
Douglas

What do you guys think of using a bunch of helicoils? Does anyone know the right length I would need and a good place to buy them?

Keensurts are much stronger the heli coils little more coin to spend but well worth it. A friend and I did this to his 99 ctd he used a pawn shop torque wrench and pulled like 8 threads I think.

I have never heard of these, but they sure look easier to install than heli-coils...Mark

Heli Coil? You've got to be kidding me. NEVER!!! Consider Timesert, but since you'll be drilling and tapping those as well, might as well just go for bigger studs.
cheers,
Douglas
