Turbo upgrade????

Hey guys I have a 91.5 intercooled cummins, and I just got the pump turned up a bit. I was wondering if there is a cheap turbo upgrade that I can do , my buddy says that a turbo from a 97 will bolt up and is better but I have no idea.

Thanks for any help.

gillet diesel has a 60mm turbo upgrade or you could get a smaller exhuast housing and that would make it spool quicker here's a link

the first thing you wanna do is...

your truck being a 91.5 has the "lagmaster" 21cm exhaust housing... spools MUCH slower then the 93 18.5cm exh. housing.

ditch the stock 21cm exh. housing in favor for a 16cm and that will help ALOT, or put on the turbo from the 97... it has a 12cm exh. housing and would would spool up almost immediately.

If you can get the HX35 from the 97 for like $200 then i'd do it because a 16cm exh. housing is pricey... a 18.5 from a 93 cummins would be a very cheap upgrade. but blah blah.

dieselobsession, can you fill your signature out for us with info on your truck? do yo have gauges? thanks

It sounds like you are looking for a turbo that will just bolt on?

the gds 60 mm is a great upgrade. what kind of power are you wanting a lot or a little if you want a lot more and more things will have to be done. if you want a little you can get buy with some cheap mods like a 3200 spring, denny t stage 2 fuel pin, gds 60 mm upgrade and a 16 cm exhuast housing. all of that for about 500 bucks. tweak the pump bump the timing and youll have an entirely different ride.

Uh huh we all heard the little bit more power story before. Then it's a little more ect.. It's like a drug it will hook you, right after the 1st gen fever does. So go get all learned up on 1st gens Cummins and join the crowd. LOL no i'm just joking with ya but it is addictive. What truck do you have, I know a 91.5 I/C what is it though? Have fun with it!! Good luck.

You should add some fuel first before worrying about the turbo.

The H1C has a little room for extra power before you need to worry about upgrading it or replacing it altogether.

you think your truck is not that powerful probably because of the exhaust housing taking forever to spool.

does it seem to have alot of 'lag' when you floor it from a dead stop?

I bought a 12cm exhaust housing for $70, advanced the timing, and turned the fuel up some right away when I got the truck and the mileage went up and the power nearly doubled. If your just looking for a little more getup then get a smaller exhaust housing and turn the fuel up.
