Turbo direction
Turbo direction
Ok, so I'm working on my 4bt and swapping in a manual trans. In order to have the shifter come up and not be way under the dash i had to move the motor backwards towards the firewall. The 4bt exhaust manifold is not like the 6bts. It 90s straight down between the 3&4 cylinders. I'm going to flip the manifold over so the manifold will now 90 straight up between the 1&2 cylinders. This will have the turbo mounted higher on the front of the motor rather than lower and on the back of the motor.
If I leave the turbo mounted on the manifold and just flip it the comp will be pointed to the back bumper and the exhaust towards the front. My question is does the turbo care which way it's pointed? Can I turn it where the comp is pointed to the front bumper or will it not run correctly?

I plan to when i do the twins. That was another reason for repositioning the motor now. I am just not sure which two cylinders I will want to cut off of my 6bt manifold yet. Ideally i want the turbo between 2&3.
From my reading there are three ways to do it. Cut two cylinders off either end or cut one cylinder off each end. My main concern was height. The Toyota only has so much room without doing a cowl hood
Heres the 40 mounted with the 4bt manifold upside down. Won't fit turned the other way because the comp hits the motor lift point, the injector line and the valve covers. Looks like centered with the 6bt is the best route.
