Hello, just recently purchased 93 dually 2wd with 200k. We just replaced lift pump and injector pump and thought our dodge was ready to pull a decent load. Drove 30 miles to pickup 6k lbs of lumber plus 6k lb trailer(12k lbs total), 5 speed was shaking and jerking like about to vibrate apart, had to put in nuetral to stop shaking, but shaking came back whenever i put any power down. Had to drive home 30mph on highway. Everyone that i talk that has 5speed has had problems, so i was hoping i could switch this tranny for something much stronger. Does anybody know or has done a tranny upgrade? Would a newer 6speed fit or even a newer 5 speed? This tranny was supposed to have been rebuilt right less than 10k miles ago, and has shifted and run fine until we tried to tow a real load with it. Thanks for your help.

 

do a search on the nv4500 might even be a stickey on it.

 

I don't think it's the trans. Sounds like motor mounts or a broken clutch disk.

 

I'll have trans apart this week. something's definetly shot in there!!! I just don't want to keep replacing the same thing over and over. I've seen conversions of this motor into several different applications so i thought there would be some sure manual tranny that could take the torque of this stock 12 valve. Thanks for your help
