TPS has got me a bit confused here...

Well ya see, I followed these instructions on here but I seem to be doing something wrong. I had the TPS off and down to the hex head where there's a flat screwdriver screw in the center. Then it said to touch the center to the jacket with a paperclip. From there I used my tester and I was gettin readings all over the place. It also spoke of two flat screws there and I only saw one. Can someone help me here, Thanks.

You are replacing it I guess?

Installation

1) Install the TPS to the bracket. The hex drive on the bottom of the TPS shaft may not align with the opening in the throttle shaft. If not, remove the bracket mounting screws and place the hex drive of the TPS into the socket of the throttle lever. Position the hex drive so the TPS bracket has to be rotated clockwise to align the mounting holes.

The hex drive of the TPS should be flush with the top of the throttle lever hex socket or just above it. To adjust the hex head position, hold the nylon shaft in place with an open end wrench while adjusting the hex head posiion.

2) If the bracket mounting screws were removed, tighten them to 7 N*m (60in. lbs.) torque. Tighten the TPS mounting screws.
3)connect the electrical connector to the TPS
4)adjust the throttle position sensor. Refer to adjustment

Adjustment Instructions

You don't have to remove it to adjust it. That's why I was a bit confused reading the post.

Anyways...that info will get you back on track.

At about 30K, mine went to acting stupid with OD. Turns out I had a dead spot come up in the sensor. I replaced it, and have done ok since (208K).

I don't know how often they fail.

Hrm... Tested my TPS last night and this afternoon. Last night it registered .45ish... then this afternoon it was .35ish. Got it set to about .86 I think. I'm gonna put it to 1v tomorrow. Just been testin it after ever tweak. I wanna know though... should it go back down once it's tweaked. For example I turned it to .996 then once I finished test drivin it, it went back to .866. It's still at .866 but should it be moving like that?

I would worry more about the full throttle voltage, especially if the high idle has been moved at all. Try to get it around 3.25 or so
