TPS Bypass

Hey all, Still trying to work out this shifting problem with my friend's W250 A518. We've adjusted the TPS and the TV cable numerous times and it always helps for a little while (cures the constant up and downshifting between 3rd and 4th). But, after awhile it always starts acting up again. I saw in somebody's signature one time that they had "bypassed" their TPS. Is this just referring to installing a potentiometer? Or did they really bypass it, as in get rid of it. Don't want to spend $230 on a new one. The PO had it replaced once as we can see the wires have been spliced and the original is in the glove box. Thanks in advance.
Dan

I did the potentiometer install on mine to get rid of the dropping out of od randomly on the highway. I was having to adjust the TPS every couple of months too, so far this has cured it.
