Post Too Quiet

Does anyone have the problem of their cab being too quiet inside?

I was sitting at a red light tonight looking down at my cell phone next to me (yes I am using handsfree) when something flashing caught my eye so I look up in time to see a big red fire truck crossing the intersection right in front of me with all of its red lights flashing and siren blaring being barely audible in the cab, so I rolled down the window a bit and yes it was defiantly a fire truck loud as I remembered them.

I have had this happen before when I would see an ambulance or fire truck coming up behind me and pull over but not being able to hear them much over a muffled wail as they passed right next to me, my truck is not loud inside except for a muffled resonating rumble from the engine.

My cab is air tight and when you slam the door you have to pull it hard or it will not close unless you open the window a bit, I can crank up the stereo quite a bit and there are no rattles but you are totally immersed in the sound, I love it but I just can’t here anything from the outside world.

Oh but the truck sure does rattle on the outside so all of the neighbors tell me.

But this still does not explain why I cannot hear my turbo with my windows open.

If you are not constantly paying attention it could be dangerous.

Jim

From what I've seen in your posts, Mr. Lane, you have got to have the quietest 1st-gen ever! As well as one of the prettiest, (although Bob Beauchaine's is pretty darn sharp too, at least on the outside. I haven't seen the inside so I can't say.)
No, I think it's probably just you who has to worry about being super alert when looking out for emergency vehicles! ... well ok, we ALL do, but you know what I mean. I did take a leaf from your book though, and put some foam dampening in my doors, it made a very nice difference. My doors don't close with that hollow steel rattle any more. Now it's a nice dull thunk. A bit like this...! And my road noise has lessened too, so I'm very happy and grateful for your constant source of inspiration and informative write-ups.

Cheers!

Not a problem I suffer from, I can assure you!

My doors are sealed and deadened, but the rest of the cab likes to resonate at all sorts of different frequencies.

I find that my stereo will drown out the rest of the noise, once cranked...but then I wouldn't say that that is 'quiet'.

Maybe the batteries in your hearing aids are low.

X2 on shamran's point, plus I put in the door insulation when I had them apart for the weatherstripping job, along with getting my gear shifter hole closed up properly. I'll find out about exterior noise shortly as the back rusted out of my muffler so I'm gonna replace it with straight pipe and "see" how it sounds. I keep the slider window open a bit for my dog in the raer behind the seats so I'm anticipating a bit of a sound show. Later, ...

Not in my truck. All I can hear inside my cab is the barely muffled rattle of a CUMMINS even at 70mph.
Now, the other half's 07 Dodge Nitro is another matter, i have had that happen in it before.

I don't know if I could drive around with that. I can lose a car in the pillars between the windows in my dad's 3rd gen pretty easy. I can't imagine having a 5" hoodstack blocking my view....or the smoke rolling out of it.
